Gail Rolf, M.S.
Education Director

Gail taught health education on the junior and senior high school levels and part-time on the community college and university levels for 35 years. She worked with the Los Angeles Unified School District’s (LAUSD) HIV/AIDS Prevention Project, the IMPACT program (Drug and Safe Schools program), and with the Office of Educational Equity Compliance as the Project 10 Advisor. She retired from the LAUSD in 2005.

Gail became involved with Project 10 in 1989, and as a result she conducted student support groups, served as a commissioner on the Gay and Lesbian Education Commission for the LAUSD and chaired the Gay and Lesbian Issues Committee for the United Teachers of Los Angeles.  Following Dr. Uribe’s retirement from the LAUSD in 1998 (Dr. Uribe is the founder of Project 10), she became the Project 10 Adviser for the district.

Her accomplishments included the establishment of the LGBT Advisory Committee to the Board of Education, the LASPD-LAPD LGBT Cadre, the AB 537 Task Force, the implementation of LGBT Antidiscrimination trainings, revision of district antidiscrimination policies to include sexual orientation and gender identity, and the provision of district and community resources and referrals that serve the LGBT student population.

Her current duties include speaking to education professionals, community members, and parent groups on LGBT youth issues. She helps to coordinate the annual Models of Excellence Scholarship program. Gail has authored articles and consulted on many projects related to the health status of all youth, including the LGBT youth population.
